The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
‘The Good, the Band and the Ugly’ is a musical tribute to all things cowboy and country and fans can see the show at The Boardwalk’s Vodacom Amphitheatre on Wednesday 28 December and Thursday, 5 January.
The show traces the history of American country and western music with all time classics from artists such as Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Willy Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kenny Rogers, Roy Orbison, Joan Baez and Janice Joplin. The show will feature hits such as Ring of fire, Walk the line, Ghost Riders in the Sky, Mama don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys, The night they drove old Dixie down and Piece of my heart.
Since the 1940s the genre, now broadly known as country music, came to encompass many styles and sub-genres such as country Western, Nashville sound, bluegrass, honky tonk, hillbilly rock, country rock and southern rock. According to radio agency ratings, 77.3 million adults listen to country music in the US. Even the king of rock, Elvis Presley, once said of his music “my stuff is just hopped-up country.”
The musical skills of the Centrestage All-Star band will be supported by three guest artists on vocals.
The show starts at 20h00 and tickets are available from Computicket at R95 for adults with discounts applying for pensioners, students and anyone under 12.
